What is ‘Camp Beagle’ all about?

Camp Beagle is a campaign to end the breeding of beagles in the UK.

The aim is to:

· Rescue the current beagle puppies from the breeding facility.

· Shut down MBR Acres breeding facility

· End vivisection and animal testing on beagle dogs.

We want to end the suffering that these dogs go through. There are alternatives available that are more effective and efficient for all the tests being carried out on these dogs and it is morally wrong to make a sentient being suffer in the way the dogs suffer.

Dr Ray Greek, president of Americans and Europeans for Medical Advancement said:

“An immense body of empirical evidence has supported the position that animal models offer NO PREDICTIVE VALUE for human response to drugs and disease.”

Peta has reported that “The National Institutes of Health (NIH) noted that 95 % of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials because they don’t work or are dangerous and of the small percentage of drugs approved for human use, half end up being relabeled because of side effects that were not identified in tests on animals”.

WHO IS MBR?

Marshal BioResources was founded in 1939 by a man called Gilman Marshall who saw a gap in the market for ‘well-tempered’ animals to use for testing on. He started by breeding ferrets and since then the family business has increased the species and numbers of animals it breeds and is now led by Scott Marshall.

In 2016, the U.S. department of agriculture fined Covance (one of the facilities the beagles get shipped to for the actual testing) $31,500, after 13 macaque monkeys died of hypothermia in two separate incidents when no one noticed that the thermostats had malfunctioned, causing the rooms to overheat…

MBR Acres in Huntingdon breeds about 2000 dogs annually for transport to UK laboratories for cruel, painful procedures, including being force-fed chemicals for up to 90 days with no pain relief or anesthetic. This all starts at 16 weeks old as mere puppies. MBR Acres agrees that their dogs are trained to be laboratory ready, including presenting their paws for injections and accepting gas masks on their faces.

The experiments endured by these dogs are now reported by the British medical Journal,

the FDA and experts in the pharmaceutical industry, to be entirely failing the search for human treatments and cures.

These dogs are kept indoors their entire lives, their loud distressed cries and traumatised barking can be heard clearly outside the buildings.

Buying official statement merchandise raises both much-needed funds and awareness at the same time.

How are funds from sale of merch used?

All proceeds go to the campaign, and we are so grateful to Viva La Vegan for this collaboration.

These much-needed funds go towards many things in the campaign such as leaflets and other marketing materials and campaign activities. We need to raise awareness of what is happening. It’s only when the light is shone on this dirty little secret in the UK’s countryside that we can garner the support to get this place closed down and be another step forward to bringing science out of the dark ages and into the present day!
